                       RiscOS Tiles

                  Current Release Notes
         Version 2.22, dated 7th January, 2000
             Brain Games, R.I.D.Macfarlane

The application is RiscOS compliant, multitasking in the
WIMP environment and will startup in the usual manner. The
game can be played using only the mouse to control play.
The summary file [in the Info.Default folder] gives a
quick resum of the gameplay. The !Help file [in the Info.
Default folder] provides an overview of the information
that is available in the manual which is supplied with the
full game version.

The following information is intended to help the first
time user to get started.

 - This application will only work in the RiscOS window
environment [RiscOS v2.0 to v4.0]. Please refer to your
Acorn User Guide if you are unsure about entering and
using the Desktop.
 - A Filer window will be open showing the !Tiles icon and
the edit icon relating to this ReadMe file. Drag the !Tiles
icon to a new Filer window of the harddisc/floppy disc/RAM.
 - Double-click SELECT when the pointer is over the !Tiles
application icon in this new window.
 - A window is displayed which shows a screen shot of five
windows of boards in the five languages which are present
in the boards that are supplied with this demo version.
 - This title window is displayed whilst the program reads
in and initialises its data and then the window disappears
leaving the Tiles icon on the iconbar.
 - Click the SELECT mouse button whilst the pointer is
over this icon. The title window invites you to choose
one of the directories from which to choose a file to use
as the board for the game.
 - Click SELECT over the chosen file and drag its icon and
drop this when it's over the main Tiles window.
 - The board data is then loaded in, which may take some
time on the older computers. The hourglass is displayed.
 - The main Play window will then be shown in the centre
of the screen, together with the first player's rack
window.
 - Click and drag the lettered tiles from the rack window to
drop on the corresponding lettered space on the board. Each
player is allowed to move two (or more) of his tiles, before
play moves on to the next player.
 - Players that finish words receive points. The winner
is the one with the most points at the end of the game.
 - This procedure is described in much greater detail in
the 'Getting Started' chapter of the manual.

Notes:

 (1) There are many variations in the rules of the game,
which are set by the data file for the board. Each of the
supplied boards has different rules to demonstrate these.
Please don't condemn the game if it isn't doing the same
thing that it did with a previous board. This is now
especially true with this version which has added timing
and automatic play facilities on some boards.

 (2) If you have RiscOS version 3.1 in your machine it is
likely that you will get an address exception error the
first time that you start up Tiles. This is a problem in
Fontmenu which was written by J.Rling before RiscOS v3.1
was in existence. The simple solution is to double-click
again on the Tiles icon to restart.

 (3) If errors occur that come from the system rather than
from the application and you are experiencing problems
after this occurrence, then use the Obey file called
FreeUp. This is to be found in the Utilities directory.
To run this program, double click on this file's icon in
the filer window.

 (4) Each copy of Tiles is put through a test sequence to
ensure that it is working satisfactorily when it leaves
Brain Games. If you have problems please give us a ring /
send us a fax / send us an e-mail.
